Uh-Oh

“Uh-oh”  This is Julia’s new favorite word.  Well, not really new because it’s been heard quite frequently around here for the past two or three weeks but I’m finally getting around to writing about it.  The thing about “uh-oh” is that it can mean almost anything.  She definitely uses in pretty much the proper context but there is no distinguishing in tone between a big" “uh-oh” or a little “uh-oh”!  So when we hear it uttered it could mean “I dropped my bunny on the ground” or “I spilt some water on the floor” or “I just knocked over a whole container of goldfish crackers which were open and are now swimming all over the kitchen floor” or “I just fell on the driveway and skinned both my knees.”  It’s sort of amazing that she does not have more of a reaction to some of these things but to her it’s just an “uh-oh.”  I, on the other hand, usually have a different opinion… especially about things like this:

Father’s Day 2010

This weekend was my second Father’s day as a Dad.  It started off wonderfully, my wife and daughter let me sleep in, then cooked me a delicious breakfast.  They made biscuits, bacon, and yogurt with cherry jam mixed in.  It was a wonderful start to the day.  After breakfast we introduced Julia to her newest toy, the castle!  She took to it right away.

From there we headed to North Beach for another fun filled afternoon.  Alyssa packed us a wonderful picnic lunch of gazpacho, sandwiches and tomatoes (unfortunately Julia ate all of those).  We had another great time in the water, I think Julia would spend hours in there if she could.  Once we were sufficiently cooled off from the 95 degree day we headed back home to a hang out with Chris, Cristy, Meg & Jack (our neighbors) and cook a wonderful steak dinner.  It was a wonderful fathers day, I couldn’t ask for anything better than spending the day with my wife and daughter.

Fun in the Sun

Last year we found this little beach on the Chesapeake Bay in North Beach, MD.  It’s great for kids as it’s protected by jetties on all sides and the water doesn’t get more than 3 feet deep for a couple hundred yards out.  Yesterday we decided that we would continue to celebrate Andrew’s birthday this weekend by going to the beach today and we had a fabulous day!  The weather was beautiful – 90s and sunny, the beach wasn’t too crowded, and everyone was having fun.  We dug in the sand…IMG_3125 Had a good lunch…

Julia loved the water and had a great time playing, splashing, and trying to swim from Mom to Dad.  It was a perfect day!
