As I’ve mentioned previously Julia has started singing songs on her own. We’ve had a hard time capturing this on camera but had a little success last week – mostly when she wasn’t looking! So here you go.
This weekend we took our first camping trip as a family – Andrew and I both camped before we met each other but it’s something that we had not done together. So we set out Friday afternoon for Luray, VA. The campsite was a couple of hours from home in the Shenandoah mountains.
We spent Friday afternoon setting up camp and exploring the campground. And then Saturday we went to see the Luray Caverns in the morning and then spent the afternoon at the pool.
There were lots of fun things to explore including swings…
jumping pillows (I had never seen anything like this before and they were pretty neat)…
and a pool (which was open but not heated so very cold!!).
The Luray Caverns were very impressive (to Andrew and I at least) and someplace that Andrew had wanted to visit for a long time. Julia’s patience was a little thin so we walked through pretty quickly but we were glad that we stopped and got a chance to see it.
Overall it was a great trip. Julia really enjoyed sleeping in the tent with Mom and Dad and spending so much time outside and of course, the s’mores!!
Julia’s favorite spot in our neighborhood is this swing in our neighbor’s front yard. She and Andrew make a trip there almost every evening after he’s done with work… and she always wants to go higher!
So I’ll begin by stating that I do not have a video to accompany this post. I wish I did but it just hasn’t happened yet. Anyway, for the past couple of weeks Julia has been singing Pat-A-Cake on her own, unprompted by us. I thought that was great but over the weekend and for the last few days she has begun expanding her repertoire to include “This is the way we wash our clothes,” the Bob the Builder theme song, and the ABCs (and makes it to “h” without any assistance!). She has also started singing along with the cd of kids music that we have in the car. I love it!!
Last weekend was pretty joyful around here. First, Andrew’s mom, aka Grandma Su-Su, was in town and it was a very nice treat for us and Julia to continue the grandparent visits! Then on Friday, Andrew and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. Julia and I baked a special cake and she decorated it herself with M&M’s and mini chocolate chips.
Julia also declared that we needed “party hats”. I’m not sure where she came up with that, I think it may be from daycare but we thought it was a great idea and Dad took charge of helping everyone construct hats. Even Bunny got a hat!
On Saturday, Andrew, Su-Su, and Julia went to the pool in the morning and then Andrew and I went out to celebrate our anniversary while Julia stayed with Susan in the afternoon. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the luxury of going to see a movie and having a delicious dinner at a little Italian restaurant in DC, Obelisk. Then Sunday was Easter! There was lots of excitement as Julia hunted for eggs and checked out her basket.
We continued the celebration with a special brunch at a Lebanese restaurant where we feasted on hummus, lamb, tabbouleh, cucumber yogurt salad, and lots of other Lebanese dishes. It was delicious and made even better because the weather was gorgeous and we could sit outside.
Tomorrow we are off on our next adventure, a trip up to RI to visit more family… and to maybe start scoping out places to live come late summer!!!
