I like these photos because not only do they show how much Julia has changed but also how our living conditions have changed as well.  We’ve gone from a pretty clear room to a few toys creeping in to “a toddler lives here”!  When Julia’s awake there’s a lot of chaos (this was an attempt to fold laundry) but we love every second of it (maybe not at that exact moment but you know - in retrospect)!

18 Months

Julia turned 18 months old on Monday (8-9-10!)!  Unfortunately she marked the day with full-blown teething misery but she had a great weekend with Andrew and his parents in Charlottesville leading up to it.  From what I’ve heard they spent quite a bit of time in pool and there was a lot of hiding of bunny… a perfect weekend in Julia’s book.

She had her 18th month doctor appointment last week and she has finally reached the over 20 pounds mark. She is 21.4 lbs and 31 inches tall and overall very healthy.  She did great at the appointment.  Funny enough, she cried when they weighed and measured her but was laughing when they gave her her shot – go figure!

She is beginning to talk quite a bit and has a pretty good vocabulary down already including mama, dada (sometimes), apple, elbow, tomato, no (and many variations of it such as nah, nope, and nonononono accompanied with vigorous head shaking), yes, banana, night night, love you, bubble, circle, uh-oh and wow.  She is literally running around and is starting to try to jump but can’t quite get airborne (thankfully).  Her favorite activities lately are collecting things (mostly pom-poms,  bracelets, and grape tomatoes), helping me cook, and coloring and painting.  Finally, she has become quite vocal about her opinions and we have started to enter temper tantrum territory. uh-oh! But overall we have had a great summer and are looking forward to our last few weeks of it especially a trip to Rhode Island to see all the relatives and spend some time at the beach!  Julia has her pail ready!

Silliness on Sunday

I thought everyone could use a laugh to start the week!

The Kitchen Reaction

Julia woke up on Wednesday to her new toy.  Andrew was a little optimistic with his prediction about the 5:30am reaction.  It seems nothing can distract from the morning routine of milk and Sesame Street.  Julia wanted nothing to do with the kitchen when she woke up BUT an hour later she was happily exploring it.  Apparently she was thirsty!

Julia’s First Kitchen

For anyone who has stayed at our home it will come as no surprise that Julia loves exploring the kitchen.  So after a couple of test runs at the toy store with commercial kitchens, my brilliant wife figured out how to build one.  She inventoried the house, sketched plans, hired a contractor and started building.

As you can see it started pretty simple.  After a few hours on the weekend, and some nighttime labor, she and the hired help delivered a very cute kitchen.

Here is the proud architect with her wonderfully designed and almost fully stocked kitchen – we just need to add some play food!

The big reveal is tomorrow, my guess is that Julia will wake up the entire neighborhood when she sees it at 5:30 am.

First Haircut

Last weekend we took Julia to get her first haircut.  I have given her a couple of trims in the past but have not attempted the whole head and it was time.  She was excited about going but a little apprehensive when the hairdresser started.  Bunny and sitting on dad’s lap helped that and she ended up with a very cute cut!
