Julia recently competed in her first multi-sport event, a Splash and Dash organized by a local triathlon club. She ran .3mi, swim 50yards, and ran .3mi to the finish and was the fastest girl in her age group!

Maine 2017

Our annual trip to Maine was filled with all our favorites things: swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, ice cream, lobster, and time with family. And a couple of new experiences: a performance of My Father's Dragon at the local theater and time in the hot tub (Ben's favorite place!).  We enjoyed a beautiful week on the lake!

Swim Milestone: Clownfish!

All the swimming Ben has done this summer paid off. Ben was promoted to the next level of swim lessons and he's the youngest Clownfish they've ever had! And the only 5 year old with an amazing butterfly stroke!

The family that surfs together!

We headed out to Narragansett Town Beach on a recent slightly overcast day for our first attempt at surfing! I gulped a bit when we rounded the corner to the beach and I saw the size of the waves, easily 3-5 feet with 5 feet being more frequent. But our instructor assured us that we'd be okay, he would stay close to the kids, and we would all ride a wave before the hour was over. And he was right!

surf's up!

My best ride that was caught on camera:

Julia's a natural surfer. She was super relaxed in the water and on the board, didn't blink as the waves crashed over her head, and kept asking for "one more ride." This video is not her best ride - she caught several waves from crest to the shore but this was the only one captured on video. You can see how casually she gets up - no big deal at all!
